“During the spookiest time of the year there are a few guidelines all ghosts and goblins should follow. Always stay on sidewalks. Never go to a strangers house, and never go out alone.”

MAKING SAM

A List of Sources I Used to Make Sam

ONESIE

While I'm sure there are much cheaper options out there, I went with a custom Onesie store called All-In-One Company. I did this for two reasons. One, I could custom make my own onesie and add things I wanted. Two, I couldn't find any orange onesies at the time I made this and I wanted it done on time for Spooky Empire. I chose for the entire onesie to be orange, I wanted the feet attached, I wanted pockets with zippers (I was thinking ahead of conventions), I wanted a high neck so that the head would sit on top of the neck, and I wanted the zipper in the back. Once it came in I weathered it with brown, black, and some green paint that I mixed into ugly colors. I also took a piece of mustard colored felt and cut a few squares to hot glue on for the patches. Since the feet of the onesie were attacked to the legs with a white material, I made sure to focus a lot of weathering in that area. Note that I wear very thick socks underneath the costume when I wear it. Specially at conventions.

MASK

The mask is made out of burlap, which I doubled up on to be sure that you couldn't see me underneath. I made it into a half circle and sewed that up. Then I flipped right side out and sewed on buttons I found for the eyes, and used twine to sew the stitches on for the mouth and the stiches he has going up the middle of his head.

HEAD

The most common question I get: What helped the head keep its shape? It's a rodent exercise ball. One made for a rat. I bought mine from Chewy.com. Once it arrived I tossed the lid. (The part that twists on and off and is the opening for the rat to get in.) I then cut a slit along the breathing lines for the rat and cut from the hole to halfway up. I did the same a few breathing   lines down. (If this isn't making sense, I suggest looking at my youtube video on Sam's Mask. It's hard to describe without pointing to what I mean. I used a box cutter to do the cutting. If you do the same be VERY CAREFUL! After that I sanded down the newly cut plastic and put duct tape around the edges. Then I made sure it fit over my head. (The hole that the rat would go in adn out of is the bottom of the mask and where your neck will go.)

EXTRAS

The gloves I just bought cheap black winter gloves from amazon for about $5 and cut the fingers off of them. To keep the mask on the head I use rope to tie it around my neck and pull the mask tight. I know that sounds dangerous, but I assure you, the rope doesn't go anywhere near my neck because of the head. Just be careful the first times you do it while you get used to how to tie it tight without causing any danger to yourself. The bag is just an old pillowcase that I weathered with the same paints  I used for the onesie. The lollipop I bought from an Etsy store. At this point Trick r Treat is so popular you should have tons of options on Etsy for it. It should cost around $20-$25.
